Máire Catherine Nobes

Studied Art and Art History in Sligo, Eire and London, England.

Máire’s unique vision of her homeland is reflected in her many varied works of mixed media.  Her individual style and approach to contemporary paintings, textiles, ceramic and glassworks create an immediacy and spontaneity to her Art.

Historically, Máire’s paintings have been born from her Irish roots – showing a distinctive fluid style, displaying strong, bold use of colour whilst at the same time reflecting the romantic call of the wilds to north-west Ireland.  Her strong interest in Art-History is reflected in a magical collection of her Celtic works portraying interpreted pieces based on the famous ‘Book of Kells.’

Her artwork can be obtained through a number of selected galleries in Ireland, England, USA and Finland as well as at Craft and Trade Fairs in Ireland and USA.  Exclusive pieces can be found in private exhibitions or via website.

She currently resides in the heart of the Suffolk countryside where the wide open spaces continue to inspire her thoughts and work, however given the opportunity she continues to find solace in her favourite place, on the shores of Lough Gil in Ireland.

Although she works in a large inner-city high school in Norwich, England she still manages to find time to run workshops offering an introduction to Celtic Art, Traditional Music and Irish Dance and she runs a succession of successful, lively Celtic summer schools.  She has been commissioned by organisations such as the BBC’s Autumn and SpringWatch programmes, as well as a number of charitable companies either to run workshops or to supply unique artwork.
